What we collect
We are a read-heavy site. The main data we collect comes from community theft reports submitted voluntarily via the report form. For each report we store:
- The approximate location of the theft (latitude/longitude of the pin you drop)
- Vehicle type, make, model (optional)
- Parking context and date of theft
- Optional venue name and short notes
- Timestamp of submission
We do not collect your name, email, or any account information. No login is required.
IP addresses
Your IP address is hashed (one-way, non-reversible) at submission time and used solely for rate-limiting to prevent spam. We do not store your clear IP address. The hash cannot be used to identify you.
Location data
The pin you drop on the map is stored as a latitude/longitude pair. This is used to associate your report with an area (city, commune, or local authority).
We never display exact locations publicly. All displayed pins are shifted by approximately ±150 metres (deterministic jitter) so that exact addresses are never exposed. The associated area name is shown, not the precise pin.
If you reported a theft from your home address, the displayed pin will be approximately 150 m away. If you would like the coordinate removed entirely, see the takedown process below.
Notes and free text
Optional notes you add to a report are stored and may be displayed publicly (after moderation). Do not include personal information — names, contact details, registration plates, or home addresses — in the notes field. Moderators will remove reports containing such information.
Official data
Official statistics (SSMSI France, Home Office UK) are open government data published under open licences (Licence Ouverte 2.0 and OGL v3.0 respectively). They contain no personal information. See our methodology page for source details.
Cookies and analytics
We use minimal first-party analytics (page views only) with no cross-site tracking and no advertising cookies. We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party advertising network.
Takedown / removal requests
If you submitted a report and would like it removed, you can request removal by:
- Identifying the approximate location, date, and vehicle type of your report
- Emailing us at [email protected]
We will process removal requests within 14 days. Removed reports are flagged as removed in our database and excluded from all public displays and aggregates. Coordinate data is also zeroed on removal.
We do not require you to prove identity to process a removal — we will err on the side of removal if a request is plausible.
Data retention
Community reports are retained indefinitely to support longitudinal analysis. Hashed IP addresses are retained alongside reports. If you request removal (see above), both are zeroed.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you are in the UK or EEA, you have rights under the UK GDPR / GDPR including:
- Right of access — to know what data we hold about you
- Right of erasure — to have your data deleted
- Right to rectification — to correct inaccurate data
Because we do not collect names or emails, association of data with a specific individual requires you to provide context (location, date, vehicle) to help us locate your record. Contact us at the address above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a revised date.
